Mise en selle

One of the first questions politicians have to answer is : why do they run for one office. Vying for power ? Struggling to make their constituency a better place ? Protect human rights, freedom and whatever idealism you might figure out ? Defeat an arch-enemy ?
Boris Johnson the Tory would-be next London mayor may have all these big issues in mind when he gave a speech at the Tory conference earlier this month. According to Simon Hoggart, Boris expressed his disappointment about his London experience under Livingstone's mayoralty :
"And we returned to his great obsession - the theft of his own bicycles. Seven since Ken Livingstone had come to power!"
